After an overwhelming response, this year's event is expected to attract over 500 people. Organised jointly by local youth initiative Active Life Club and The Larkfield Centre, it is hoped that this year's Eid in the Park will continue to provide a platform for grassroots engagement, promoting understanding and mutual respect among communities. Young people in the area are working with professional artists to create an All different but United silk banner, designed to reflect and represent the diverse communities in the area. The All Different But United logo was created last year by talented young artist, 18-year-old Omar Raza, from Govanhill, and his artwork was exhibited. His logo will also be transferred onto the banner which will be launched on the day, to be showcased later at the Glass House in Queens Park. It will also be used to represent the community during different parades and marches tackling racism and sectarianism. Omar, who is on the Active Life Committee, has a comedy radio show on BBC 4 every Monday. He said: "Eid in the Park is an important day for everyone at Active Life Club because we can see for ourselves the positive effects that it has on people of all ages in our very mixed community." Raza Sadiq, chair of Active Life Club said: "We are extremely excited about this year's event - not only because last year's was such a success, but because of the atmosphere it creates and the community spirit that it promotes. "We hope to see many families and neighbours come along for a family day out with a difference, and of course a very important message of promoting diversity, cultural awareness and just having fun. "The event will offer local service providers the opportunity to interact with young people, and look towards effectively addressing the issues which they face." Anne Marie Millar, Councillor for Southside Central added: "Last years event was a good foundation for the community who came together to celebrate Eid. "Young Omar gave an insight into Islam and about the peace and humanity that it represents. "Through the bringing of the whole community together comes a better understanding of the many cultures that we have within the south side of Glasgow."
