A Safe Place - The film and education pack

A Safe Place

SRTRC produced a new educational resource called 'A Safe Place' in 2004 - a video featuring top footballers, including Thierry Henry, and young asylum-seekers talking about the issues and myths surrounding asylum in the UK. The video comes with an education pack which is suitable for use in a number of educational settings.

A Safe Place video and education pack can be ordered online, more information is available in our Resources section.

Asylum-seekers in the Scottish Premier League

Over the years there have been several examples of asylum-seekers playing in the Scottish Premierleague, forced to flee their homeland's for a variety of unthinkable reasons. The most prominent asylum-seeking players in Scotland include:

Rudi Vata, Celtic FC, asylum-seeker
Ex-Celtic player Rudi Vata sought asylum from Albania in the early 1990s, feigning injury during a France v Albania friendly at Parc des Princes, he walked up the tunnel, and kept walking into a French police station, where he claimed and was granted asylum from the oppressive circumstances in his homeland.

Dado Prso, Rangers FC, asylum-seeker
Current Ibrox favourite Dado Prso is a Croatian asylum-seeker. He sought and was granted asylum in France during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, prior to joining the Glasgow club.
