The
2004/05 Winners Report
Scotlands national stadium was the venue for this years SRTRC/EIS
Schools competition on the 14th March 2005. This highlight of the year
for Show Racism the Red Card was an eagerly anticipated event, in which
much hard work and dedication was instrumented to produce one of the best
prize giving ceremonies in a long time.
Scotlands school pupils sent a clear message that they are opposed
to all forms of racism by participating in record numbers in this years
arts competition which was organised by the Educational Institute of Scotland
and Show Racism the Red Card.
Compered by BBC Scotlands Dougie Vipond, the young, and old, audience
were captivated by the artwork on display and the footballers in attendance!
Prominent names from the world of football including Hamed Namouchi of
Rangers, Derek McInnes of Dundee United and Colin Nish of Kilmarnock,
turned out to promote the anti-racism cause. Scotland national team coach
Walter Smith and under-21 coach Rainer Bonhof, joined the host of Scottish
Premier League stars to drive home the anti-racist message and to celebrate
the success of the schools competition and reward the winning pupils for
all their hard work.
Speaking at the Hampden event, EIS President Sheena Wardhaugh said: "All
the young people here today should be proud of their efforts to combat
racism. The winners should be especially proud of the works of art they
have produced."
She added, "But the real winner here is Scotlands multi-cultural
society, with so many young people clearly committed to the anti-racism
cause and producing such excellent work which really helps to drive home
the important anti-racism message."
Roddy McNulty, Show Racism the Red Cards Education Development
Worker for Scotland, said: "SRTRC have been greatly encouraged with
the response to the schools competition this year - the standard of entries
was terrific. The message is unequivocal from Scotlands younger
generation that racism is not welcome in society. 250 young anti-racists
from all over Scotland have gathered here at the national stadium to receive
prizes from their sporting heroes, and to celebrate the efforts of the
thousands who took part in this competition nationwide.

As part of Scotlands contribution, SRTRC also launched Scotlands
red Racism Band. What better way to send out the message
loud and clear from clubs, footballers, fans and young people alike -
not everything is black and white: see racism; see red". More.....
