Tuesday 3rd May 2005
Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC/Show Racism the Red Card anti-racism seminar
Caledonian Stadium, Inverness

The SRTRC team headed north to the Highlands of Scotland for this event; the first one to be held at the club since they entered, and, surprisingly to some, took the SPL by storm. The Highland Council arranged for schoolchildren to attend, who traveled from all over the Highlands. Pupils from Cawdor, Cradlehall, Grantown, Aldourie, Torridon, Farr and Edderton Primary Schools as well as pupils from The Bridge and Dornoch Secondary Schools attended what turned out to be an excellent event in terms of enjoyment and the seriousness of the issues that were discussed.

The quality of the questions the kids asked was unparalleled for such a young age group. Inverness players Stuart McCaffrey and Steven Hislop were the panelists recalling experiences and giving valuable advice to the attentive audience. Chairing the event was Roddy McNulty of SRTRC and the panel also included Donnie MacDonald of Northern Constabulary and Rosemary MacKinnon the Equal Opportunities Officer for Highland Council. The kids were shown parts of the ‘A Safe Place’ video as well as the Show Racism the Red Card video.

Local media coverage was excellent, with the event making the news on Moray Firth Radio, BBC Scotland, Grampian TV as well as the Inverness Courier and Press and Journal. The young people had the opportunity to win a signed Caley Thistle football in a raffle, and everyone was given a SRTRC goodie bag, containing The Red Card magazine, badge and a selection of postcards, as well as a Caley Thistle goodie bag, containing official club merchandise. The afternoon concluded with an opportunity for the kids to have their squad posters signed by the players, followed by a tour of the Caledonian Stadium. Refreshments were kindly provided by the club for everyone in attendance.
