Hearts FC/Show Racism the Red Card anti-racist presentation
Fair Trade Football launch, Easter Road
Show Racism The Red Card at Tyncastle
The final event of the season ended on a high when Hearts FC, one of the long-term supporters of the campaign , held an anti-racism presentation for 100 local school children. Hearts ‘keeper Craig Gordon and star Andy Webster were on hand to reflect on their experiences both on and off the pitch, following the showing of the SRTRC video. Another excellent set of questions followed, with another panelist Edinburgh City Council’s Equalities Officer, Laura Mitchell, giving some words of advice to the young attentive audience. A signed Hearts football was raffled and a tour of the stadium ended the afternoon with many satisfied faces!
Fair Trade Football Distribution at Easter Road
Meanwhile on the other side of Edinburgh at Easter Road, Fair-trade footballs were being distributed by the City Council Education Department to every school in Edinburgh at the launch of an excellent initiative. The launch is part of the preparations for the G8 summit in June, where calls will be made for fairer trading between the world’s wealthiest countries and the poorest. This was another opportunity for SRTRC to show its support of an initiative it backs 100%. National press were on hand to take photographs of players and school children supporting the fair-trade labour market and showing racism the red card. Hibs players Gary Caldwell and Ian Murray were on hand to lend their support to both causes.
