Glasgow ANSAR Multi-faith Iftari Meal

Friday 28th October

Atta Yaqub with Ansar winnersGlasgow ANSAR held a Ramadan iftari meal as part of the SRTRC Fortnight of Action, where 54 young children from different local youth groups were invited to take part in the opening of the fast (iftari) meal and also to learn more about the religion of Islam.

Since 7/7, there has been a huge misunderstanding about Muslims and the religion of Islam, and this event was held to answer the many questions young Scots may have had on this misunderstood religion. Zubair Malik, Ethnic Minority Sports Development Officer at Glasgow City Council was in attendance to talk about the opportunities available to young BME kids and local celebrity actor and footballer Atta Yaqub answered some of the questions put to him about Islam and the contribution that Muslims have made to the world.
