October 2005 Fortnight of Action - Action Reports

The Respect Cup
Strathclyde Police & East Renfrewshire Council
7-a-side football competition

Venue: Mearns Primary School
Primary Competition Wednesday 26 October 2005
Secondary Competition Thursday 27 OCTOBER 2005
09-30 a.m. until 12-30 p.m.

Rules are simple teams to consist of 7 players, at least three girls per team.

The primary schools will host a Festival of Football and a league fixture for secondary schools.

The theme of the event is good sportsmanship and to show that East Renfrewshire, in particular our schools are aware of Racism and will not tolerate it. The event is being held under the Show Racism the red card banner, to coincide with the fortnight of action.

We have at this time eight primary schools and five secondary schools entered for the events.

This event is organised by Strathclyde Police, East Renfrewshire Sub-Division, Community Safety and Community Police Departments. It will utilise officers who have completed S.F.A coaching courses funded by recovered proceeds of crime money.

Mearns Primary School fully supported the initiative stepping in to provide the venue for the event.

Stagecoach support the event and are sending the Wee G Bus a mobile Youth club which works in close partnership with Strathclyde Police for youth diversion in the area.

Macdonald's Thornliebank and ASDA Newton Mearns are fully supporting and sponsoring the event.
