June 2005
SRTRC Refugee Week Challenge Cup
Scotland's most prestigious multicultural 5-a-side football tournament
was held at K7X complex, Rouken Glen Park, Glasgow on Sunday 19th June
for the junior event (u-14s & u-17s tournaments) and Sunday 26th June
for the adult event.
The event, now a highlight of Refugee Week, was a joint venture between Show Racism the Red Card, The Scottish Refugee Council, Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Ansar. Over 35 teams came from as wide an ethnic, religious and cultural mix as Glasgow offers and the event succeeded in its goal of promoting community cohesion, social responsibility, religious and racial tolerance whilst also showcasing BME footballing talent.
The adult tournament was won by 'Jammy's' from Pollokshields, while in the junior cups Patchy's Allstars (u-14s) and Le Dream Team (u-17s) emerged victorious.
