Tuesday 16th November 2004
Dundee United anti-racist presentation
Tannadice

This was another successful venture for Show Racism The Red Card in conjunction with Dundee United FC's Supporters Trust, The ArabTRUST and Dundee City Council. A total of 128 primary school children, accompanied by 14 teachers attended the seminar which involved the playing of the SRTRC anti-racist video and the SRTRC 'A Safe Place' video, both of which were watched by the young attentive crowd with great eagerness and enthusiasm! But the highlight of the day came when a Q&A session with a panel that included Dundee United players, James Grady, Derek McInnes and Trinidadian, Jason Scotland, gave the young crowd a chance to ask many questions about racism and personal experiences on this issue.

This was also the official launch of the Dundee United FC/SRTRC squad poster for 2004/2005. Sponsored by Dundee City Council, thousands of Dundee United FC posters will be distributed free of charge to young people through the club and the council's education department. Councillor Kevin Keenan, Convenor of the Council's Education Committee, was also on hand to say a few words to the children.

Sandwiches and refreshments were provided by the ArabTRUST and this was followed by a raffle that gave one lucky person the chance of winning a signed Dundee United football, with Derek McInnes picking the winning number and presenting the prize unfortunately to a Dundee FC fan! The day concluded with a stadium tour and all the children came away with a bag of goodies including posters, magazines, badges and free tickets for the next home game at Tannadice.

SRTRC would like to thank ArabTRUST, the Dundee United Supporters' Trust, for helping to organise the event and the Dundee United Business Club for providing assistance on the day. Special thanks in particular go to Gordon Grady, Community Manager, Dundee United FC and Derek Robertson, Director, Dundee United FC.
