10th October 2005St. Johnstone FC and Perth & Kinross Council join the Fortnight of ActionSt Johnstone Football Club, together with Perth & Kinross Council's Housing and Community Care Services, are hosting a special event on Thursday 20 October 2005 to mark the annual fortnight of action by the charity Show Racism the Red Card, this year running from 13-27 October. Show Racism the Red Card promotes the anti-racism message, using the relatively high-profile medium of football and football players. Within Community Care, the charity’s magazine was circulated widely across the service to both staff and service users as part of the Council's support for the anti-racism message, and was well received. With a number of St Johnstone's players coming from a diverse range of countries and the club's active promotion of anti-racism, Housing and Community Care have teamed up with the club to organise a Forum for Community Care service users from Adult Resource Centres for people with learning disabilities to attend at McDiarmid Park on Thursday 20th October, to focus on the campaign. Depute Director David Burke said: "It is important that there is an opportunity to inform all people using our service that racism is unacceptable in any shape or form and I am pleased that we have the opportunity to work with St. Johnstone using the Show Racism the Red Card campaign. This demonstrates Perth & Kinross Council’s continued commitment to this area of work." |
