17th October 2005Edinburgh & Lothians Racial Equality Council (ELREC)As part of Show Racism the Red Card Fortnight of Action 2005, Edinburgh & Lothians Racial Equality Council (ELREC) and Currie Star Football Team are jointly hosting an Anti-Racism Football Tournament to be held on Saturday 22 October 2005, 9am to 2pm. The tournament will take place at Hailes Quarry Park, Dumbryden Road, Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. This will be a significant event as eight teams of Under 13's across the Lothian region will be playing a tournament that send a vital message to all football clubs that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure racism is eradicated from our sports and society. Nina Giles, Director of Edinburgh & Lothians Racial Equality Council, will say, "We hope to bring the subject of racism to the attention of young people who regularly participate in football in a fun and positive manner. These young people are particularly important because many of them have just started High School and they are now at the threshold of making their own decisions and learning that their actions could have significant impacts on others. An event like this will help break down the fear of the unknown." Presentations will be made at 2:00pm at the Pyramid, Wester Hailes Youth Agency. Each participant will receive a medal and a Show Racism the Red Card to commemorate the event. The winning team and the runner up will receive trophies. |
