18th September 2005Scots world-beaters behind scenesMy personal triumphal procession this week was to the Scottish Parliament - sounds grand, but it's only across the road from our wee but 'n' ben - for the launch of the Show Racism the Red Card video. An excellent initiative it is, too, and it's yet another plus point for Scotland in the eyes of the footballing world. And while we may be languishing at number 75 in the Fifa rankings for conduct on the pitch, Scottish football is doing rather better in our contributions to footballing matters off the pitch. Not only is Professor Stewart Hillis now vice-chairman of UEFA's medical committee, but Scottish Professional Football Association supremo Tony Higgins has been elected chair of FIFPRO's anti-racism committee. "We may be down in the football ratings, but our co-efficient is number one in these important matters," said Higgins. Martin Hannan Scotland on Sunday, 18 September, 2005 |
