21st December 2005Footballer quizzed over race slurFormer England striker Francis Jeffers has been questioned over allegations he racially abused a taxi driver in a row over a fare. The former Everton player, 24, voluntarily attended a Liverpool police station on Monday. Merseyside Police said a 24-year-old man from Ormskirk had been questioned over allegations of racist abuse. The player, who is currently on loan at Glasgow Rangers from Charlton Athletic, said he denied any allegations. No abuse The incident is alleged to have happened two months ago after Mr Jeffers was picked up in Liverpool city centre and taken to his home in Ormskirk, Lancashire. He is due to return for questioning in the New Year. A spokesman for the footballer said: "Mr Jeffers has co-operated fully with the police and is happy to help with any investigations. "He totally denies using any language which may be perceived as being racially abusive or any wrong-doing whatsoever." Source: BBC |
