"Bridging Cultures and Identities"

United for Intercultural Action, Cyprus, 11-15 November

SRTRC took part in this gathering of 80 anti-racist delegates from 38 European countries, organised by Europe's largest anti-racist and human rights network, 'United'. The network has been fighting racism and fascism in Europe since 1982 and now numbers over 500 NGO member-organisations.

Taking place in the politically and religiously divided island of Cyprus, the venue provided an appropriate backdrop to share best practice and ideas on how to combat the different forms of discrimination and intolerance that currently exist in Europe.

Issues such as minority perspectives, Islamophobia, anti-semitism, anti-Roma racism, the Cypriot and Middle East conflicts, concerted action and campaigning strategies were covered in workshops and plenary sessions.

Discussions also took place on Europe-wide action during European Action Week Against Racism, from 21st March 2006, which SRTRC will mark with events in Scotland.

A full conference report will soon be available
