24th March 2005United shows Tayside youngsters how to kick racism into touchHundreds of Tayside primary pupils were yesterday urged to show racism the red card at a special event hosted by Dundee United Football Club. The anti-racism seminar at Tannadice Stadium was the second Show Racism the Red Card (SRTRC) presentation of the season by the club and included a question and answer session with Dundee United stars following a screening of the SRTRC videos. Other star attractions included a stadium tour and the chance to win free tickets for a forthcoming Scottish Premier League game. Club director Derek Robertson said: "Dundee United FC and our fans have had a strong relationship with SRTRC for several years and are more than happy to back a second SRTRC event this season. "Racism has no place in Scottish or world football, and we will do whatever we can as a club to eradicate it from Scottish society." Mike Barile, of the Arab Trust Dundee United supporters club, said: "Our involve- ment shows that real football fans do care about the issues of racism and sectarianism which have had a lot of coverage in the media lately. "It's important that fans actually do something rather than just debating these issues. "Hopefully we have made some contribution today." |
