Former Pisa star lends support to campaign against racism in Italy

The UISP Pisa committee organized a meeting with ex-player Paul Elliott (formerly of Chelsea, Celtic and Pisa) on Saturday November 18th in Pisa, about the problems of racism and discrimination in the panorama of international football.

Centre-half Elliott, two years a Pisa player between 1987 and 1989, went on to play for Glasgow Celtic and was nominated the best player in the Scottish league. In 1994 he suffered a career-ending injury at Liverpool and was forced to withdraw from football. From then he opened a football coaching school and started to engage himself with the campaign against racism in football. Paul now sits on the board of the the Commission for Racial Equality in the UK and he is a key supporter of the FARE network.

"Today racism is a danger in football, we have to fight it. Everyone has the right to enjoy himself playing football, independently of race, colour of skin or religion." said Elliott.

"This meeting"– Lorenzo Bani, UISP Pisa President, said – "underlines the importance of the UISP campaign "Antirazzisti Mondiali", launched by our association and by the Progetto Ultra project, that has contributed to the success of the campaign."
