29th September 2007 Pupil, 15, is stabbed during school lunchbreak in suspected race attackA 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the grounds of a Glasgow school during his lunchbreak yesterday. The Scotsman understands detectives are investigating whether the attack may have been racially motivated. The boy's wounds were not life-threatening but he was taken to hospital for treatment. Last night, Strathclyde Police confirmed the incident at Holyrood High Secondary School, Dixon Road, in Govanhill on Glasgow's south side. A spokesman said: "The injuries were not life-threatening, and he was taken to Victoria Infirmary for treatment." He said the boy had been outside a sports centre adjacent to the main school building, adding: "Nobody has been charged or apprehended and investigations are ongoing." Police are understood to be looking for a local youth who was not a pupil at the school. A spokeswoman for Glasgow Council said: "An incident involving a fourth-year pupil took place outside Holyrood High Secondary. The matter is being dealt with by police." The school, predominantly Catholic, has a roll of about 2,300 and 150 teachers, and is the largest secondary-level education institute in Europe. Gerry McCann, the father of missing child Madeleine McCann attended the school, as did Fran Healy, lead singer of rock band Travis. Last year, 168 race attacks by youths were reported in Glasgow. In the past three years, 433 racist attacks were reported to the children's panel in the city. Source: The Scotsman
