Footballers kick racism into touch

Top footballers have met 100 city school pupils as part of a campaign to tackle racism.

Hearts star Craig Gordon and former Hibs and Celtic star Jackie McNamara of the Scottish Professional Footballers Association met the youngsters at Tynecastle Stadium yesterday.

Following a screening of the Show Racism the Red Card video, pupils were given a stadium tour.

The event was one of a series held at SPL stadiums this season as part of a campaign to stop racism both in football and the rest of society.

Show Racism the Red Card coordinator Roddy McNulty said: "Hearts are reinforcing the message today that racist taunts, abuse and violence are against the tradition of this club and will not be tolerated.

"We hope this message echoes round the wider community, young and old."
