Many famous faces have joined up with Show Racism the Red Card to kick racism out of football and out of society.

Bobo Balde, Celtic FC
On racism towards asylum seekers and refugees
Refugees are our fellow human beings and deserve to be treated
as such. People should take the opportunity to find out the reasons
that force people to leave their homes, and reach out to asylum
seekers and refugees who live with us.

Richie Byrne, Aberdeen FC
Have you ever experienced racism while playing football?
Yes, I've heard it - you can hear it because it's directed
at you. I've experienced both racist and religious abuse here. There's
no police that can jump into the crowd or anything. It needs to
be stamped out.
What do you think of the SRTRC campaign in Scotland?
It's a great campaign. It makes it clear to fans and young
people that racism is not on and people shouldn't just watch it
happening - people need to take a stance to stop it.

Christian Dailly, West Ham United
FC
If you experience racism in the classroom, at school or in football
then I suggest that you report it straight away, first and foremost,
and at the same time in your mind just realise that the person who
is racist is basically a coward, who feels intimidated by you and
you can just always walk on knowing that everyone's just the same.

Gary Lightbody, Snow Patrol
Did you ever hear racism growing up?
I had the great fortune of being brought up in a household
where we were taught 'each to his own'. Even in Northern Ireland,
there was no bigotry or any hate, but a lot of kids don't have that
environment to grow up in. It maybe falls to footballers to make
a difference.
What do you think of the SRTRC campaign in Scotland?
Show Racism the Red Card is a hugely important cause. The
best way to tackle racism is to ensure children are taught from
an early age that it isn't big and it isn't clever. It maybe falls
to footballers to make a difference. I think kids probably listen
to what their heroes would say off the pitch.

Stuart McCaffrey, ICT FC
If you hear it you can report it to the police, but it's
disgusting and out of order. When you're younger you have a joke
about these kinds of things and you don't realise how much you have
hurt that person. When you look back you wish sometimes you hadn't
said those things.

Robbie Neilson, Hearts FC
What is the best way to tackle racism?
It's time for people to change. If we can educate the younger
people then I feel that they can change the views of adults as well.
You have got to speak up and say to your friends; be more mature,
this shouldn't happen, this isn't now it should be, everyone's equal.

Walter Smith, Manager, Scotland
What would your advice be to young people on the issue of racism?
Travelling with Scotland you see the welcome our fans receive
worldwide - the least we can do is show respect to the diverse cultures
that make up this country.
What do you think of the SRTRC campaign in Scotland?
Show Racism the Red Card tackles the issue of racism in
an intelligent way so that people can be judged on who they are
not what colour they are.
